Corporate Headquarters Office building for was originally designed for North Supply Company, the equipment subsidiary of Sprint / United Telecom, and currently is part of one of the largest telecommunication companies in the world. The Project is located at the south end of runway 36 on the New Century Airport in Johnson County, Kansas (largest industrial airport in Midwest USA) to originally provide accessibility for travel for the international headquarters.
At the time of construction this structure was the largest office building in the state of Kansas. The design includes nearly 1,000 feet horizontal 3-floor office structure supported above a prominent lobby / rotunda finished with classic beige marble floors, white limestone walls and red granite column cladding, and includes a large 200-seat auditorium. The main floor overlooks the 2-story glass enclosed Dining Hall below and features water fountains appearing to flow from the main entrance over a water stair down into the reflecting pool and lake. The lower level and exterior Dining patio overlook the panoramic view of the landscaped lake and gardens at the rear. The building was designed by HNTB Architects Engineers and the reinforced concrete structure was constructed by JE Dunn Construction Company.
ROBERT S. SHOEMAKER provided on-site Construction Management services with HNTB during the construction of the Corporate Headquarters for the owner North Supply Company / Sprint. The project also initially included the Site Development of the highway overpass, drainage ponds / lake, and new divided parkway for the building.
